GMAT Prep & Strategy All graduate business schools require the GMAT from all candidates. The TOEFL is also required for students who have not completed their studies in English or whose mother-tongue is other than English.

GMAT Prep
The GMAT is a rite of passage. By universal consensus it is a necessary evil and can impact on the entire MBA application process. An acceptable score on this computerised multiple-choice exam is a prerequisite for entry.

The GMAT is sponsored and directed by the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC) an international organization of 131 graduate business schools. The test measures a candidate's writing, language and quantitative skill base. The schools claim that the results can predict a student's ability to perform on a MBA programme. Deans of Admissions say that the GMAT is a tool to evaluate and calibrate students from all over the world with their different educational systems.

Close scrutiny of the GMAT throws into doubt what exactly this exam measures. The exam has been open to controversy.

Rules of the Game
No matter what the schools state publicly, your GMAT score will make or break your chances of admissions. Although exceptions are made, they are rare.

The minimum acceptable score is 650 by the top schools. Exceptions are made, but candidates take a calculated risk by hoping that they will be the 'exception'. Take this exam seriously. Prepare rigorously, but play the GMAT like a game.

Not all institutions place the same degree of emphasis on the results. Harvard for example, puts more stress on the analytical writing sections and on the uniqueness of your professional profile and real leadership experiences.

How to prepare for the Tests
Preparation is paramount to taking your GMAT or TOEFL exams. There are three options:
  • You can study by yourself, diligently by purchasing the appropriate test materials

  • You can register with a WCW approved prep centre and enroll in group classes. Please note that WCW does not run group classes, but, recommends recognised institutions in your corner of the world. Not all test centres are equal. In the interest of our readership as an independent news source in business education, we will provide you with an approved list from which to choose the best centre closest to where you reside. WCW holds no affiliation with the organisations it recommends.

We recognise that most MBA candidates prefer group classes and are pleased to provide you with recommended veritable WCW validated firms at no cost

  • You can choose private one-on-one coaching
Our GMAT and TOEFL experienced experts have analysed the market, and found that there can be a noticeable increase in a candidate's score, when tutored on a one-on-one basis, over the standard group tuition method. WCW coaches put the stress on "strategy" rather than selling you published materials that you can purchase online or at your local book store. For further information contact: prepa@mba4success.com
